Ritual Intimacy is the exhibition catalogue published to accompany the survey exhibition of the same name, curated by Charlotte Day and Hetti Perkins, and first presented in 2017 at Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA), Melbourne, before touring widely. Working with photography, video, sculpture, performance and sound, the multidisciplinary artist explores themes of identity, race and Australia's colonial history, as well as his lived experience. Christian Thompson, born in 1978 near Adelaide, is of Bidjara ancestry from central Queensland and one of Australia's leading contemporary artists. Edited by Helen Hughes and designed by Yanni Florence, the catalogue features 92 pages of plates. Texts include an introduction by Charlotte Day, prologue by Brian Catling, 'Magical Aesthetics' by Marina Warner, Christian Thompson and Hetti Perkins in conversation, a full list of works and biographies.
