Rot blossom-Ikea passenger painting uses raw canvas, painted off-cuts, screen printing, painterly scumbles and compositional perspectives to create an abstracted environment where figure and interior motifs unsettle one another. Creek explains, 'In the image of a distressed interior sourced from Ikea display rooms, a prone figure dissolves into a stained ground. In the background–perhaps within a wall–are old St Kilda buildings and other imprinted surfaces. Contemporary interior fittings glow in half-light. We wonder what decay and fall has occurred? The work, the title of which stresses a falling poetic pattern, alludes to compounded cycles of commodification and consolation.
